Bears Den Mountain Field Trip

I just had to get out of the house and into the mountains this weekend. There's a great little book, a notebook really, which lists hikes under 3 miles for kids at the southern end of Skyline Drive. We're really fortunate to have such a great escape just 30 minutes from the driveway.

We drove out to Beagle Gap which sits at 2490 ft. and relaxed in the sun while the kiddo slept. When they awoke we packed up and headed out for the summit. Ok, so it's just a small knoll with some radio towers but the views were great and it was only 1 km to up and 1 km down. Perfect for small legs.

We had to cross a meadow to get to the trail and almost immediately into the meadow Molly found a bright orange caterpillar which she doted on and carried all the way to the top. She made a great argument for why we should keep it and take it home. She loved that little thing. "It's sooo cute" she kept saying. She says that about all the slugs in the back yard that come out at night too.

We had a great hike up and I got some great photos to boot. Unfortunately for Squirmy as he was named, he never made it back to the meadow.

Ciao,

Sean
